No sh!t Sherlock......The Justice Secretary, Mr Clarke, has admitted it was a “national scandal” that, overall, up to half of all offenders go back to crime. Perhaps appropriate sentencing based on the crime rather than the space available might work? It is often reported that victims feel let down by the length of sentences metered out and many more victims are created by the offenders when they are released, often after only half of their time has been served. They can't commit offences if they are in prison; fact. More time/money needs to be spent in sorting out the social issues that drive these criminals to victimise innocent victims. So what’s the solution, more MONEY and as we don’t have any then we’re up the proverbial creek without a paddle. As the government appear to be incapable of sorting out this issue it will fall on the volunteer sector to provide more support to families, individuals and ex offenders to help them develop socially accepted behavior. In the meantime Mr Clarke please find the money to build more prisons and lock the offenders up for the appropriate time.
