Man 'went shopping with mistress' after wife's murder - BBC News

CCTV images don't always have to show the actual incident to be of use in an investigation. They can often show that a suspect or witness was or wasn't where they say they were. It can also show the movements of a persons vehicle as reported by the BBC in this article.

The Surveillance Power of Video Analytics

In a new article in Government Video James Careless discuss's the latest trend and developments in the video analytics field. The new technology might take out some of the wasted time in monitoring live images and some of the time searching archive material but don't expect it to replace the human eye just yet. From experience I think senior investigators and courts will want to know that a Forensic Video Analyst has examined the material and made an assessment of its worth and validity for it to be used in evidence. Connect Outlook to your social media tools

Users of Microsoft Outlook can now have it linked to their social media tools. I'm using it with LinkedIn but it can also work with Facebook,  MySpace and Windows Live Messenger. The benefit of having the tool installed for me is that I can see if the sender is on LinkedIn and if they are it will show their picture and other details about them. If I'm not connected to them then I can send an email to them to invite them to connect. Although I have only linked the tool to LinkedIn I would expect that the same features are available for the other social media sites that you can connect to. the other great thing about it is that it can show all of the email correspondence you've had with that person, meetings etc. The only down side to it is if the search tool in windows has not indexed your emails correctly. This is a known bug and there are plenty of details on how to fix this on the internet. get it here Outlook Social Connector

Crime in your area - Ringmaster

With the ever increasing numbers of home workers it should be getting more difficult for the opportunistic thief to take advantage of a daily deserted neighbourhood. You know your local area, the habitual routine of your neighbours and whilst doing all those jobs around the house and in the garden that distract us from our actual work you will spot anything that is out of the ordinary going on in the street. Most areas in the UK have a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme (NHW) and many offer a system known as Ringmaster that will notify subscribers to recent crimes in their area and any specific persons or vehicles to look out for. Speak to the local community policing team or ask Google  for the contact details of your local NHW and Ringmaster schemes. This site has lots of useful info http://www.mynhw.co.uk/

Spead the word to your neighbours, especially the elderly or more vulnerable ones, to warn them about crime trends, not to frighten them but to hopefully prevent them from becoming the victim of a distraction burglary or to lose valuable property.

Ever wanted to open a URL in a specific browser?

I often want to open links in emails in a specific browser but my default browser would always jump in and take control. This was annoying as some links won't work in Firefox correctly and prefer IE or I like to keep all my social media windows in Chrome. I found Browser Chooser http://browserchooser.codeplex.com/ written by Jan Ole Peek could do exactly what I wanted and the ability to set selected URL's to always open in a selected browser is very useful.except it is designed for post XP operating systems.  So if your not using XP you don't need to read any further it should work without any further work from you just follow the install instructions.
