BRITISH TRANSPORT POLICE RELEASE CCTV FOOTAGE IN RENEWED APPEAL FOLLOWING ASSAULT ON PASSENGER – HACKNEY CENTRAL STATION

Last month investigators appealed for information after a 43-year-old man was pushed onto the stairs and struck with a bike during the incident on Friday, 12 August 2011.
BTP’s Detective Constable Gerry Griffin, the investigating officer, said: “Shortly after 11pm, the victim was sitting on a bench on platform one eating pizza with another female passenger, when was approached by a man who knocked the pizza out of his hand, before violently assaulting him.
“The man then pushed the victim, causing him to fall to the stairs and cut his head and then hit him with his bike.”
Following the attack the man left the station on his bicycle in the direction of Amhurst Road.
The victim was left bruised and requiring hospital treatment and stitches to the gash on his head.
The man police want to speak to in connection with the assault is described as white, in his late 20s, of stocky build and around 5’10” to 5’11” tall.
He had short brown hair with a fringe and at the time was wearing a light coloured t-shirt, khaki green combat shorts and grey and black trainers. He was also riding a black mountain bike.
Detective Constable Griffin added: “This attack appears to be completely unprovoked and the victim has been left with a large scar on the back of his head.
“BTP takes assault offences very seriously and I am now appealing for members of the public to come forward and assist with the police investigation.
“If you were on the platform at the same time or recognise the man pictured in the CCTV images, I urge you to get in contact.”
